​Each year, a Sunday in May and in August, the Allotment gates are opened for the Plant Sale and Open Day, always a special time to be able to enter this world of nature, peace and kindness.  Polytunnels and green pathways criss/cross the site and the opportunity to meet the gardeners and see the skill and energy invested in this beautiful space is much appreciated by the visitors.  With its mass of produce and planting,  from daisies, bronze fennel, early beans, cauliflowers and comfrey to an absolute wealth of edible and simply beautiful planting.  A lazy dragonfly flutters by as gardeners chat to visitors keen to hear their tips and stories.   

​From life-long gardeners to new start-ups, parents and grandparents inspiring the younger generations, the Allotment Holders are always generous with their time and tips.  One of the gardeners has tended his plot for 40 years and a gardener who has been working on her allotment for just over a year was delighted to take on her plot.  She told me that it gives a year round interest, provides healthy time outside as well as healthy produce.  She has made new friends, loves the company, the kind gardeners who share their tips, the serenity of the space and the fact that nothing is wasted on the site!  A few of the planting tips are here: Don't worry if it fails!  Think about the time involved before committing to an allotment.  Involvement with an allotment helps educate the children about food sources and its so satisfying to grow your own produce.
