Community
Volunteers for Greenfields Community Group (GCG) have worked tirelessly over the past years with the aim of 'providing a community space and facilities in the park to support the health and wellbeing of local people for generations to come'. This determined community raised significant funds to challenge the planning permission that was given for housing on the parkland and whilst the challenge was successful, the local efforts to engage with Shrewsbury Town Council to make upgrades to the park have failed. Shrewsbury Town Council would not allow any of the community-led improvements. As volunteers we were committed to improving the basic infrastructure of the park and make good use of the land to educate and inspire local people as well as provide space to meet and be active, but also provide access to quiet, comfortable, shaded areas to rest, observe and reflect.
The Committee is disappointed that their tireless efforts have met with Shrewsbury Town Council's negative responses and its a shame on the local council that the community volunteer group is closing down.

Solar lighting will be a priority to ensure that during the seasons of limited daylight, the park is safe and accessible.
Ongoing and general improvements to the appearance and the habitat value of the park will continue.
We will also communicate with county-based and UK-wide parks associations to share best practice and network with like-minded people
Our Marketing Principles are to build a supportive local community, develop goals that we all aspire to and plan how we can deliver and measure our successes for the benefit of local people.
